PROGRAM TITLE: Mark Mosher DeWolfe of Canada: The Eulogy I Never Gave
DESCRIPTION: I meet Mark Mosher DeWolfe at Starr King School in Berkeley. Seems this young man from “back East” was looking at the school considering enrollment, and I was asked to show him around the school. “Could I do it?” I was seriously depressed. Heartbreak. The loss of my first love. Still, I said yes…and my first experience with Mark was that he saw what I was going through, and began his ministerial work… with me… as I showed him around the school, and ultimately that day, San Francisco. Mark was openly gay. So was I. But congregations in Canada and the States were pretty reticent to call openly gay or lesbian ministers. (And there was not even a peep about bisexuality or transgender possibilities in that year, 1978.
I worked with Mark as an intern at Starr King. A lot changed by the time he graduated. But more about that in the lecture.
