Liberating History

June 2008

Ten years of calendar information now in book form!

Individuals, congregation, and women’s groups have celebrated the lives of historic Unitarian and Universalist women by submitting and sponsoring a page for the Unitarian Universalist Women’s Heritage Calendars from 1996 to 2005. The material in book form is a resource for personal reflection, Lifespan Faith Development, newcomer orientation, small group ministry (covenant group) sessions, women’s events and worship.

The collection includes biographies of 119 Unitarian, Universalist and Unitarian Universalist women from the United States, Canada, Britain, and New Zealand. The biographies span more that two centuries, from Anna Laetitia Barbauld (1743-1825) to Laurel Clark (1961-2003). It includes famous women like Clara Barton and Louisa May Alcott, and women whose stories will be new to many readers. The vision for this work came from the inspiration of the late Joan Goodwin, and is dedicated to her. The publisher is Peter and Lynn Hughes of Blackstone Editions.

May this book inspire you to find and honor the women in the history and those who are making history now. Keep the voices of Unitarian Universalist women alive and vibrant!
